TRICARE Lottery Sweepstakes Scam

The TRICARE Program Integrity office has become aware of a lottery sweepstakes scam where "winners" receive a fraudulent check with the TRICARE name. Targeted individuals are contacted by mail with a letter stating they're "winners" of a USA lottery sweepstakes for $250,000 accompanied with the fraudulent check. The letter tells the "winner" the check is a portion of the winnings used to help pay taxes, insurance, handling, and shipping fees. The "winner" is also told to return a portion of the funds from the cashed check.
These instructions should sound shady to anyone but you may receive inquiries from beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries asking about the validity of this sweepstakes. Those receiving this letter and check should be aware that a third party may be trying to gain access to their bank accounts, or other personal information.

USCG to keep POLAR SEA

The Coast Guard has postponed plans to scrap the Seattle-based icebreaker Polar Sea this year. The decision was announced Friday by Sens. Maria Cantwell of Washington and Mark Begich and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. They say the 399-foot Polar Sea had been scheduled to be dry-docked Monday for the first steps in demolition. It’s sister ship the Polar Star is out of service for a $57 million overhaul at a Seattle shipyard. The United States currently has only one working icebreaker, the Healy. It’s a medium service ship and can’t crunch as much ice as the heavier Polar Sea and Polar Star. Cantwell, Begich and Murkowski say the Polar Sea’s hull is in sound condition and rebuilding the ship would be cheaper than building a new icebreaker.

Hack Attack

Unfortunately we were attacked by hackers and were left with a lot of malware. After several weeks of trying to pinpoint all the bad stuff we finally settled on deleting the whole site and start with a new one. Please bear with us as we rebuild over the hopefully short time. The site will be a combination static page and blog with plans to make it more interactive with our viewers. You will have the option of registering and comment on any of the posts. With a bit of luck and patience we will have a better site. Of course any suggestions will be welcomed at SUGGESTIONS
