Eastern Point Lighthouse
Historic 1890 Eastern Point Lighthouse and 1879 two-story duplex keeper’s house in Gloucester in Essex County, Massachusetts. The lighthouse is a 36 ft round brick tower with lantern room and gallery. The light has a focal plane of 57 ft with a 20 mile range.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987 (NRHP Structure No. 87002027 as the Eastern Point Light Station).

Were you involved in the automation of and disposition of equipment from lighthouses and other aids to navigation after WWII and into the late 1970s? Did you serve on the east coast from the 50’s thru the 70’s and were you involved with lighthouse automation and modernization? If so, maritime Historian Steve Gronow would like to discuss your experiences. He is particularly interested those involved in Maine during 1959-1960. He is researching material for a story to be submit…ted to the Maritime historical publications. Of special interest is documenting the official policies and directives given for disposition of the original obsolete equipment as directed by the USCG during 1945 – 1970’s when most automation was occurring.
