Ocean City MD Breeches Buoy Reenactment

Conducting a live demonstration of historical surf rescue techniques is a great way of highlighting just what the Coast Guard’s predecessors in the Life-Saving Service did and we applaud the volunteers from Ocean City, MD, for putting this exhibition together.

If you’ve never seen a beeches buoy demonstration, take your next opportunity to watch one. You will  be surprised, in this day and age of technology and power tools, how much manual labor went into rescuing a ship’s passengers and crew in the surf. And keep in mind while you watch the demonstration in the sunshine during a nice day at the beach, few rescues were made under such ideal conditions!

And for the Ocean City, MD volunteers – BZ from the Foundation For Coast Guard History on a great way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the creation of the modern day Coast Guard!
