Ocean City MD Breeches Buoy Reenactment

Ocean City MD Breeches Buoy Reenactment

Conducting a live demonstration of historical surf rescue techniques is a great way of highlighting just what the Coast Guard’s┬ápredecessors in the Life-Saving Service did and we applaud the volunteers from Ocean City, MD, for putting this exhibition together.

If you’ve never seen a beeches buoy demonstration, take your next opportunity to watch one. You will ┬ábe surprised, in this day and age of technology and power tools, how much manual labor went into rescuing a ship’s passengers and crew in the surf. And keep in mind while you watch the demonstration in the sunshine during a nice day at the beach, few rescues were made under such ideal conditions!

And for the Ocean City, MD volunteers – BZ from the Foundation For Coast Guard History on a great way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the creation of the modern day Coast Guard!
